First time in over a decade - one of the finest P-51 Mustangs in the sky

In and amongst all these first time bookings, it's probably about time that we announced an old favorite is coming back, albeit after a decade.

This is Marinell, one of the best examples of the iconic North American (third aircraft from them announced today) P-51 Mustang.

This year she's being flown by our friend Isabel Rutland. Isabel, the aircraft's owner has flown at Old Buckenham before. Last year she was aboard her other North American, a T6, during her first year of display flying. In her second year, she's moved up a notch, because the T6 was the trainer for aircraft like the P-51, which has a little bit more power; 1700 hp to be precise thanks to a rather famous engine being mated with a supercharger.

The engine in question is the Rolls Royce Merlin, quite simply the finest means of propulsion ever invented. It's the masterpiece which powers the Spitfire, with a bit more ooph. The Mustang, thanks to the oomph and versatile design had more range than the Spitfire, and could go further still thanks to the ability to fit long range fuel tanks. It could therefore escort bombers deeper into enemy territory and then do what it, and the Spitfire did best - dispatch the enemy in some of the greatest and bravest aerial combat there is likely to ever be.

So, fittingly for a USAAF base built for B-24's and celebrating an important anniversary for a very special B-17, here's the legendary aircraft which protected them.
